TECHNICIAN: JOB DESCRIPTION
Pretoria Boys High School is looking for a person to provide
technical support for two related subject departments, namely Life Sciences and
The successful candidate would be responsible for:
ð Running a chemistry store room to acceptable safety standards,
including the ordering of stock; labelling and inventory keeping.
ð Setting up laboratory equipment for practical classes within the two
ð Manage a Life Sciences model room.
ð Clean and service equipment, as required.
ð Manage a laboratory assistant.
ð Clerical work related to these two subject departments.
not directly related to the core functions (outlined above), the successful
candidate would also be required to:
Assist the two school
counsellors for a limited number of hours a week in carrying out clerical
duties, that include the preparation of examination concession applications (to
the Gauteng Department of Education).
ii Arrange the monthly staff teas (ordering of eats and laying out of
these in the staff common room).
ð Applicants should be in possession of at least a National Senior
Certificate with English, Mathematics and Science as subjects.
ð A suitable technical diploma would be a recommendation.
ð Previous experience in the running of chemical stores and science
laboratories would be preferable.
ð A working knowledge of the school curriculum in the relevant
subjects would be useful.
ð A basic understanding and knowledge of chemicals and life science
specimens and the use of typical laboratory equipment is essential.
