Nature conservation, leadership and entrepreneurial challenge

In Form II, our boys embark on an exciting three-week camp in the great outdoors. The boys are taken to the picturesque Kamoka Bush School in the foothills of the Waterberg Mountains near the town of Modimolle.

Bush School at PHBS

The boys have the opportunity to swim in pristine rock pools, sleep under the stars and listen to stories around the camp fire. The early morning runs and swims are embraced by many boys who make the decision to commit themselves fully to the experience. The beneficial effects of digital detox from social media or an unhealthy diet is experienced, and new friendships are formed. Here the boys can kick a ball around a rocky soccer field or rediscover the pleasure of reading a good book during free time. At night time, they can see the stars the way it can’t be seen in an urban environment or learn the benefit of journaling like Marcus Aurelius in the Stoic tradition.

Here they will receive an extensive environmental education, tips on the art of survival and develop an appreciation for our natural surroundings. However, it is much more than just environmental education; it is teaching the boys a set of life skills they will utilise for years to come. Only when one is out of one’s comfort zone, can personal growth really take place.
