PBHS is home to a fully equipped Sanatorium and Counselling Centre.

The Sanatorium and Counselling Centre is located centrally on campus and offers medical care and support to all our boys. The sanatorium is staffed by two registered nurses who are available to attend to minor illnesses and injuries on a daily basis. Should a boy require further assistance, the nurses will arrange for the appropriate care givers.

Wellness at PBHS

In collaboration with the support offered within a boy’s house through their housemaster, tutors and teachers, the school offers the services of three on-site psychologists. PBHS is committed to taking a holistic view of the pupil in his educational journey. Everyone’s journey is different and this may include the need for services of a psychological nature during his time at the Boys High.

We aim to assist pupils with their emotional, psychological, social and behavioural well-being. This is done adhering to the HPCSA’s code of ethics through prioritising the confidentiality and dignity of the pupils as our clients.

At the Counselling Centre we offer the following services:

  • Intake and evaluation appointments
  • Counselling and therapeutic interventions
  • Crisis management
  • Specific academic support
  • Psychometric assessments
  • Referrals to external professionals

The psychology department offices are in the East wing of the Sanatorium building.

The psychology department has evolved in recent years, and is now represented by Ms Alicia Bestbier (educational psychologist), Mrs Lynn Skippers (clinical psychologist) and headed up by Mr Maurice Aronstam (counselling psychologist).
