Message from the Headmaster
Pretoria Boys High has for over a century served the country well by providing a high school education for thousands of the country’s young men, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in all manner of occupations and professions.
The school remains perfectly placed to serve the role of a flagship school within the public education system and has more than ever the capacity to continue to produce, the type of men who contribute positively to our country. The school prides itself on having a holistic educational philosophy. It is our belief that all boys should have the opportunity to gain a balanced education that is based on academic, cultural and sporting dimensions. The school is famous for inculcating a belief in the timeless values of good manners, integrity, loyalty, honour and respect. These have become the hallmark of the alumni of Pretoria Boys High. It is ultimately the belief of this school that a well-rounded young man is the highest ideal of a Boys High education.
Headmaster: Mr GJ Hassenkamp
BEd (Hons), HDE
Mr Hassenkamp is an old boy of Boys High – matriculated in 1990 – he went on to train as a teacher in Johannesburg and then taught for a time at De La Salle College and also in London. He joined the staff of Boys High in 1999 as a Geography teacher. In 2005 he was appointed as a deputy headmaster, a position held until 2013 when he left to take up the headmastership of Hermanus High School, where he made a significant impact on the school as well as the broader Hermanus community. Mr Hassenkamp returned to Boys High as Headmaster in July 2020.
Mr Hassenkamp’s career has always been characterized by a real passion for education and a genuine concern for people, both pupils and staff.
