
On 15 and 16 April, Singing for Smiles hosted an unforgettable Jo Black and Choirs event at Abernethy Hall, Pretoria Boys High School, to raise funds for Daybreak House, a safe haven for vulnerable babies located nearby. The evening was a vibrant celebration of music, art, and community spirit. Guests were welcomed by the Pretoria Boys High Band, setting the stage for a spectacular night. The setting felt straight out of a movie, with the majestic sandstone buildings of Pretoria Boys High providing the perfect backdrop for a celebration of music and hope
The event opened with a dazzling performance inspired by The Greatest Showman, featuring a captivating solo by a Pretoria Boys High student.
Each choir, including Laerskool Lynnwood, Laerskool Menlopark, Laerskool Pretoria Oos, Laerskool Hennopspark, Laerskool Bakenkop, Johannesburg Children’s Choir, Hoerskool Die Wilgers, Pretoria Boys High School, Laerskool Tygerpoort and Laerskool Kruinsig, performed two songs. Daybreak House babies stealing hearts during their Oom Olifant performance. Acrobats and fire eaters added flair, while Anton Smit Sculptures sponsored two stunning face masks for the occasion.
The night culminated with a powerful performance by legend Jo Black, whose hit songs Hallelujah, Skepe, and Rig Jou Oe Op Na Die Berge moved the audience. The finale saw Jo Black joined on stage by all the choirs for an emotional performance, leaving everyone inspired and uplifted in support of Daybreak House’s mission. More than 1000 people attended the event over the 2 evenings.
