Legacy Concert Fundraiser: A phenomenal success for boys’ bursaries at Pretoria Boys High School

This past weekend, Pretoria Boys High School, in partnership with the South African Hall of Fame hosted an unforgettable evening of music, energy, and generosity. The much-anticipated Paul Anthony concert which featured the PBHS Choir and Big Band not only brought down the house but also contributed towards our ultimate goal: raising funds for much-needed bursaries for talented boys to attend our historic ‘School on the Hill’.

The event started with a moving address by the Chairman of the Hall of Fame, Mr Johnny Burger. He explained the goal of the Legacy Project and encouraged everyone to support this incredible cause. His passion and compassion for those who are less privileged than many of us was apparent in his speech, resonating deeply with everyone in the hall. His words were not just a call to action, they were a testament to the values enshrined by both the South African Hall of Fame and Pretoria Boys High School.

Headlining the night was the Paul Anthony Band, known for their electrifying performances and captivating stage presence. The crowd was bopping their heads and tapping their feet from the first chord, singing along to the band’s classic rock hits. From catchy Rodriguez tunes, to the somewhat heavier distorted guitar riffs of Black Sabbath, there was no denying the energy that filled the venue. The second half of the show saw the band joined by our very own Choir and Big Band where they collaborated on hits such as ‘Birdland’ by Weather Report, ‘Dancing in the Dark’ by Bruce Springsteen, and ‘Autumn’ by the Strawbs, amongst others.

The support from the PBHS community was overwhelming. Aside from the guests, hundreds of Old Boys and supporters in other provinces and abroad joined the live stream. It was incredible to see so many people come together for such an important cause. The show was just about sold-out and it was a clear testament to how much the Boys High community cares about supporting its students and future leaders.

The funds raised from this event will directly benefit boys at Boys High as well as several others in the future. These funds will help them access the resources they need to thrive academically and beyond. The bursaries provide opportunities for boys who might otherwise be unable to attend school, ensuring that talent, ambition, and drive are never limited by financial barriers. This is the goal of the Legacy Project.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who bought tickets and supported the event in any way. The evening was a reminder that when a community comes together, we can create something truly special. We look forward to many more successful fundraisers, rocking the night away for a truly amazing cause!

The Legacy Project has several initiatives in place in order to raise these funds. Another stunning initiative, the Trilogy Ocean Challenge, is an extreme open-water swimming event and a world-first, where two athletes and Old Boys, Peet Crowther and Chris Oldnall (also a school deputy) will brace the unpredictable, icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean in Cape Town. These continuous swims, lasting between 24 and 36 hours are all in aid of raising these much needed funds.
